A charity golf day that was the idea of Italo Stars soccer club president Warren Walker has raised $3000 for Our House, associated with children’s charity Our Kids.
Walker initially contacted Peter Warren, of Somerville Laundry Lomax, and together they organised a number of sponsors including the Lismore Workers Club.
The charity day was held at the Lismore Workers Golf Club in February.
Rebekka Battista, who inspires many people to get involved with fundraising for Our House and Our Kids, accepted the $3000 proceeds.
Walker said he had been overwhelmed by the generosity of the many sponsors who provided great prizes for best-performed teams in the ambrose format, who in turn opened their wallets to nominate for a round of golf and bought hundreds of dollars worth of raffle tickets.
Our House is a building near Lismore Base Hospital that has short-term accommodation for individuals and families affected by cancer and treatment.
There are already plans for another charity event next year and, while the golf scores may still be ordinary for some, Our House is again expected to be the winner.
